Come on PATH, get on this!!
The future is here and it’s bright and it’s now.
The S-Trains already are the envy of transportation planners around the world. I’ve ridden them dozens of times, and some cars were already dedicated to bike commuters. These new cars are put other subways in check. Brilliant idea to have them enter in one door, and exit via one way the other. So efficient.
Copenhagen is doubling the space for bikes on a number of its suburban trains to meet growth stimulated by the switch to free bike travel.
The Copenhagen S-train has also introduced one-way traffic in the new bike compartments to make it easier and faster to get on and off.
Ten S-Trains are being remodelled with the new compartments, which are in the middle of the train so that there is more space for bikes on the platform.
The train system in the Danish capital is being gradually improved for travellers with bikes as increasing numbers of passengers are combining bike and train for their commute.

"How bicycling will save the economy"
This is a really interesting article on Grist about the growing bike economy, and how if we ditch our cars, more money stays in the local economy in our communities. While I’m all for the growth of the bike world (hence living in Jersey City which is VERY carless-commuter friendly), I’m also very conscious of people who get very upset when told what to do. Especially when it comes to their freedom to climb into their huge-ass truck with balls hanging from the license plate and go roaring down the street honking at every pedestrian or bicycle that gets in the way (sorry, venting, this actually happened). Every effort counts though, and while Portland may be leading the way, JC is right behind them!

Check out these gorgeous cruisers, from Villy Customs in Dallas. You can rent bikes FOR FREE (i know, we had trouble understanding the business model too…). But they’re super nice, they just love spreading cruiser love, and they make some amazing custom bikes too. Love!
